GHES Media Center
Mrs. Swearingen's Vision
My vision is that the school library should be the heart of every school. It is a place where students and teachers can not only come to read, but also access a plethora of books, technology, and resources freely, safely, and in a comfortable, engaging environment. As a school librarian I will focus on promotion and advocacy of the school library as well as building a love for reading amongst students. I will recognize the importance of strong media literacy skills in accordance with multiple literacies, developing rigor, and 21st century learning skills. Students will become independent, lifelong learners of information through instruction, quality learning experiences, and collaborative activities with other students, teachers, and partners outside the walls of the library and the school. Developing a partnership with teachers is key to an effective media center program, which can be obtained through instructional support and by forging collaborative practices. I will provide an avenue for parent and community outreach, as establishing a line of communication with parents and partners ensures the library program continues to run efficiently and effectively. Perhaps most importantly, I will be committed to creating and maintaining a trusting, caring, creative, interactive, and orderly environment where teaching and learning are exciting and engaging and students are assisted as they develop literacy and digital skills responsibly.

Mrs. Swearingen's Message to You!
My name is Michelle Swearingen and I am the current school librarian at Gold Hill Elementary School. It is my 2nd year in the media center, and hopefully a more normal year than last. I am a certified elementary school teacher and have nearly a decade of teaching experience. This year may look and feel different from last year and even years before due to the pandemic, however, I am here for you and your kids and will offer support and encouragement along the way. Just remember to BREATHE...this school year is just a chapter, and not the whole story. <3
Please use this website as a form of communication to receive media center announcements as well as school-related event dates. To the left you will found valuable tools which include a calendar, academic resources, and parent resources provided by the school district.
Please reach out to me via email at any time for your communication needs: [email protected]
